Advantages:
Titanium has many significant advantages over other metals. It is a metal known for it’s high strength to weight ratio. It is corrosion-resistant (including to salt water) and resists tarnishing at room temperatures. Titanium is ductile and has a high melting point. Though it is more than 60% heavier than aluminum it is more than twice as strong as 6061-T6.
Applications: Machinery, electroplating, precision parts, automobile industry, biomedical implants and various types of corrosive-resistant equipment
Popular Grades of titanium bar, titanium rod:
CP ROUND BAR, GRADE 2
CP Grade 2- Titanium bar and titanium rod offer high corrosion resistance and the approximate strength of 6061-T6 aluminum. It’s high strength, low weight ratio give it a diversified range of applications ranging from medical applications to aerospace and automotive fabrication.
Properties: Commercially Pure (CP), Grade 2 titanium, in its annealed state, is a ductile metal. High corrosion resistance and a great strength/weight ratio.
Common Uses: It is used where corrosion resistance is an important criterion, or where operating temperatures preclude the use of aluminum.
Ti- 6Al-4V ROUND BAR
Gr5 (Ti- 6Al- 4V)- Titanium bar and titanium rod is the most popular titanium grade, often associated with medical and aerospace applications. By heat treatment this material to achieve even higher strengths.
Properties: Heat treatable, lightweight and offers high corrosion resistance.
Common Uses: Well suited for high strength aerospace applications and medical implants due to its biocompatibility.
Ti- 6Al-4V ROUND BAR (Eli)
Ti- 6Al-4V Eli- Titanium bar and titanium rod are used wherever light weight, high strength, increased toughness, and high corrosion resistance are needed. Substantially harder than Grade 2 titanium, Ti- 6Al-4V Eli Titanium Round Rods are recommended to be machined with slow speeds and high lubrication.
Properties: Extra-low interstitial (Eli) indicates that it is a higher-purity of Ti- 6Al-4V. Superior toughness to fracture and fatigue cracking, particularly in very cold, cryogenic temperatures.
Common Uses: the Eli addition makes the metal very suitable for many medical applications.
